Every day, hundreds of tons of glass waste are produced in the world. Glass is a non-degradable material. Only after hundreds of years, under the influence of the atmosphere, it turns into silica dust. However, glass is 100% recyclable. This material can be recycled an infinite number of times without losing quality or purity. Recycled glass materials are also completely safe for the environment. By using glass waste, we save natural resources. One such resource is sand, the extraction of which leads to soil erosion and destroys local ecosystems. Recycling helps reduce the growth of landfill sites and reduce the energy consumption required to produce new glass.
For my work I used hand-recycled bottle glass. All elements for the vase were also hand-made. The blowing technique from the Glass Knight studio, blowing in an open flame of a torch using the lampwork technique, sintering and annealing in a kiln, and ultraviolet gluing were used.
The name «New Source» includes two ideas: - a new source of material: this year I faced a shortage of the glass I usually buy, and bottle glass perfectly replaced the missing color scheme; - a new source of ideas: the color of the bottle glass reminded me of bubbling water, hence the image of bubbles and the desire to create a voluminous, airy vase that could become an interesting interior item.
The vase is an original art object for interior compositions, an independent decorative item and has a practical function. Dry or live plants are recommended.
