«Aleatorics» exhibit

Stokhausen, Bullez and Cage are famous composers whose musical works are linked to experiments and accidents. They used different methods, such as a gift of random numbers, play bones, or even noisy generators, to create music that is not subject to traditional musical structures. The principle of randomity removes from the composer any responsibility for his or her work by transferring it to performers, willing to implement the scheme each time in his or her own way. This phenomenon is known as the aleatorics.
