Actionism

A field of art in which the artwork is not an object, but a real action by the artist occurring at a specific time and place. The artist uses their own body as a medium, and the surrounding space and objects as co-performers of the action.
Activist artists and elements of their work that influenced the project

Photo and object description

The water tower on Battery Hill in Vyborg was built in 1930 based on the design by architect Вяйне Кейнянена. Standing about 26 meters high, its exterior brickwork conceals two enormous conical concrete reservoirs inside. It served the city for water supply, but later lost this function and remained abandoned for a long time.
Performance Object
The droplet frame—a symbol of the water that once filled the tower. I use it as a lantern, illuminating the path and connecting me to the history of the place.
The candle and the mirror are symbols of life and memory. The mirror reflects the flame, creating an image of the past that continues to exist in the reflection.
Concept
The body traces a physical path through an emptied vessel of history—the water tower on Battery Hill, which once held two million liters of water in each reservoir, but is now empty. I carry with me the framework-drop—the shape of water without the water itself, a miniature double of this desolate tower. Through running, echoes, blood, and return, I embody what the building silently holds: war, damage, an unexploded ordnance discovered decades later.
