Ceramic Sculptures «SKVOZ'» Artist Marina Akilova
The pieces were fired in a high-temperature wood kiln at the Anagama kiln. The complex technique of applying materials in layers is combined with a flying ash effect. The surface texture, volume, and size of the pieces are the result of extensive work with the material and firing technology. The pieces' textured, pitted surface emerged from years of research into Neolithic dimple decoration. The underside of the pits proved to be highly effective, and the size of the pits increased over time.

Lying by the sea and feeling for stones with your foot… Choosing a suitable one, one with a hole inside… Because you can look through it, see the path, squeeze through, and transition to another level.
Now I can make the stones myself—imagine what they will look like, whether your hand will glide past their sides or pause to explore the cracks…
I use clay like glaze… It suggests color options, the fire offers more, and all that remains is to choose whether the coating will be russet or gray, black, or greenish…
This is my personal lava; it repeats the Earth’s history, layering and hardening…
The pleasure when the colors of the stone resemble those of dry grass, stone and earth, stone and gray sky.
