Description
Pop Art (from the English «pop-art"—"popular art») is a style that emerged in England in the late 1950s and quickly spread worldwide. It served as a reaction to the complexity of Abstract Expressionism, offering instead simple and relatable images from everyday life. In the early 50s, Britain was attempting to recover from the war and establish new values—a mission undertaken by the «Independent Group.» They criticized traditional views on contemporary art, arguing that one could «buy a magazine with a perfect image and possess an icon no less striking than any museum Madonna.»
